The Fairmount bathroom we finished is a guest bath that the owners wanted as a tub-only room, with no separate shower at all. A clawfoot tub against teal beadboard, a pedestal sink, leaf-print wallpaper, and a hobnail glass sconce, in a two-bedroom historic house.

The middle of the neighborhood is about 1,668 square feet on a lot barely fifty feet wide, and a third of the lots are narrower than that. Small houses on narrow lots is the condition every bathroom here is drawn inside. About 99 percent of the district carries the city historic overlay, so what you do outside is reviewed, though the bathroom itself is not.
