The Project
These clients told us at the first meeting that they did not want us to play it safe. They wanted dark, heavy, and full of story, and they gave us the room to do it.
The primary bath came back in green and grey tile with a freestanding tub, wall-mounted fittings, and fluted sconces, and with the metals mixed on purpose: champagne bronze against matte black rather than everything matching. Our design and construction teams carried it together.
The part worth knowing about is the bathroom we did not remodel. One of the kids' baths still had its original green tile, and it was better than anything we would have specified in its place, so it stayed. The other we took the whole way: leathered grey quartz, limestone tile, brass fixtures, and a wallpaper the kids picked. Elsewhere in the house the stained glass, the hardwoods, the interior doors and a set of century-old speaking tubes all stayed too. Even with the additions along the way, the project came in under budget.
